Black Maybe?

During black history month many student organizations at Hampton University, hold forums that deal with issues in the black community. One of those events was the State of the Black Man. The perceived goal of this event was to shed light on certain topics that affect black men.

One of the topics discussed was identity and what it means to be a black man. The topic of black identity and black community always interested me because I don’t believe either of those concepts exist any longer. There are millions of African-Americans in the country, but you can’t classify them as a community because they don’t all live together or have the same goals.

There are multiple identities that black people have become associated with. It depends on the individual to choose what his identity is. And that identity may not be what others consider to be “black”. In my opinion as long as you are being a positive member in society that’s all that matters.
