What’s HOT & What’s NOT

This weeks version of what’s hot and what’s not is a little different but it works.

For the HOT this week it’s “The Black Mamba” Kobe Bryant. Kobe is the cover boy of GQ magazine for the month of March and looks very stylish. He’s even sporting his finger cast. And in his triumphant return to the court Kobe’s golden touch won the game in the last second againts the Memphis Grizzlies. I hate to say but his jumper is unstoppable.

For the NOT we have Tony Kornheiser. Kornheiser is the co-host of the show PTI (Pardon The interruption) on ESPN and recently made some questionable comments about his colleague Hannah Storm. Here’s what he said: “Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She’s got on red go-go boots and a Catholic school plaid skirt way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now.” Now the outfit was pretty horrendous, (http://blog.zap2it.com/thedishrag/2010/02/tony-kornheiser-suspended-from-espn-for-hannah-storm-comments.html) but he had to know this wasn’t going to go over smoothly and now he’s suspended. In the words of his co-host Michael Wilbon…See ya later knuckle head!

These Colors Don’t Run, They Skate!

The U.S.A men’s hockey team has been one of the biggest surprises in the 2010 winter olympics. A team full of good players, but no go-to-guy, is 4-0 and headed to the semi-finals to play Finland.

They shocked the world by defeating Canada earlier this week and are now the favorite, in some circles, to win the gold medal. The most shocking thing of all may be that they didn’t give up after beating Canada. Normally a huge win like that would cause a team to become  big-headed and lose focus. But this team has some of the same characteristics of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” squad. They play together and have fun because they know they’re playing with house money.

If these guys win the gold it would do a lot to boost hockey back up to where it used to be prior to the lockout of 04-05. So now the question is…Do you still believe in miracles?

Crocodile Tears From Tiger

If you’re like me and you watched Tiger Wood’s “press conference” or “statement” or whatever that was supposed to be, you probably were thinking…C’mon Son.

Tiger’s seven minute apology was laughable at best. It didn’t really need to be done, because most people were over the story. He stumbled and paused throughout the speech, which makes me wonder if he wrote it. It certainly didn’t answer any questions about what happened and what will happen in the future. And on top of all of that he didn’t get his image back. And he made it worse by getting mad at the media for following his family members around after the scandal made news. Hello? You’re only the biggest sports star on the planet. What were you expecting? To top all of it off Tiger goes to his mother and starts crying on her shoulder at the end of the press conference.

The only good things that came out of this “statement” or “apology”, were him saying he will play golf again eventually and him saying he will keep his private life private. I respect him for saying he will keep his personal affairs between his wife and himself, because it’s not the public’s business. As far as his statement goes…he should probably get a better publicist to write his speeches.
